The 2026 Hunter Ice Festival will be the weekend of Jan. 16-18 throughout downtown Niles. As always, there will be family-friendly fun all weekend with dozens of ice sculptures lining the streets throughout the city, live ice carving demonstrations, downtown business specials, and warm treats.

The Hunter Brothers Ice and Ice Cream Company, established by Henry and Lemont Hunter in 1898, was pivotal in the history of Niles, Michigan. It was Michigan's first commercial ice harvesting business and the first industry in Howard Township. The company harvested ice from Barron Lake, utilizing natural spring water to produce pure, clean ice. They also pioneered the production of dairy products like butter and ice cream, essential for preserving food and transporting agricultural goods. In 1914, the company was renamed the Hunter Ice and Ice Cream Company and continued sourcing all products locally.
